Rosental Mitte has been used as a research site since the 1960s.

Today, Rosental Mitte is home to research facilities of the University of Basel, ETH Zurich and the FHNW (University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland), with focuses on biosystems, dentistry and life sciences. The Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) also has its headquarters here.

Rosental Mitte is planning spaces that meet a variety of needs and should provide development opportunities both for existing companies on the site and newcomers. The most in-demand spaces are those for offices, services, laboratories and research – particularly, though not exclusively, for the life sciences industries. Rosental Mitte is forging links between Basel’s research sector and business, with great opportunities for young companies.
