1. Mr William Kleiber, you are Head of Real Estate and Facilities Management DACH at Syngenta in Basel. Would you briefly explain who Syngenta is?
Syngenta is a global leader in agricultural innovation with a special connection to Basel: our roots go back 250 years, and our global headquarters are still in the city today.
2. What does your concept entail, and what are your goals?
Our goal is to help farmers around the world feed the world’s growing population sustainably. We develop integrated solutions – from pesticides and plant tonics to seeds and digital technologies. Services that benefit a wider population, such as floriculture, sports turf care and mosquito control, round off our offering. We combine innovation with responsibility: for us, efficiency and sustainability go hand in hand.
3. Why did you choose Rosental Mitte as your company location?
There are historical reasons. The Rosental site is the oldest chemical site in Switzerland. It dates back to 1858, when the company Geigy settled there. Geigy became Ciba-Geigy and eventually Novartis. In 2000, the agricultural businesses of Novartis and AstraZeneca merged to form Syngenta, the first company in the world to focus entirely on crop protection and seeds. Our roots therefore go back not ‘only’ 25 years, but span more than 250 exciting years of Swiss industrial history.
Apart from this, the location is also ideal in terms of transport links. Whether public transport, motorway or airport, everything can be reached in a few minutes.
4. How is the interaction with the other companies?
We value the neighbourhood on the site and share facilities such as the Physio 23 fitness centre and the occupational doctor. These shared services create points of contact and promote collegial exchange. The site’s infrastructure offers optimal conditions for everyone involved.
