Through the temporary use of building 1046 on Rosentalstrasse 33 (intersection of Rosentalstrasse and Sandgrubenweg), Immobilien Basel-Stadt enabled the first opening of the Rosental Mitte site in May 2020. The initial project represents the gradual opening of the research and business site – which has remained closed until now – as it was presented by the canton in the Rosental Mitte urban development model at the end of January 2020.

The main tenant at building 1046 is Westhive AG, which offers a total of about 140 co-working and flex office workspaces in the building. In addition to its occupation by Westhive, the ground floor of the building also includes a 90 m² project room with a balcony. Known as ‘Project Room 33’, it has been made available to the Kleinbasel district secretariat and its organisations since August 2020. This has provided the district with a new location for a variety of events and meetings, and has been used regularly for several months.

The temporary use of building 1046 will continue until about the end of April 2022. The plan is then for the building to be transferred to a housing cooperative.
