From the 2023/24 school year, a secondary school will move into the historic Bau 1 building. This provisional arrangement is initially limited to three years. The necessary renovation work is proceeding at a rapid pace: by summer 2023, the former Syngenta administration building, dating from 1930, will already house ten classes. In a second stage, which will end in summer 2024, 7 more classrooms will follow. The trial run with a number of school classes was very positive. Mr Daniel Morf will take over the management of the new school from August 2023 with an 80 percent workload.

The necessary construction work started back in November 2022. In parallel with this work, the northern façade is being renovated in close consultation with the heritage protection authority. The building is characterised by spacious areas and good accessibility. Located directly opposite the Badischer Bahnhof at Schwarzwaldallee 215, the building offers space for a large day centre.

In addition, students will enjoy the use of two roof terraces and an elegant entrance area with marble staircase as their meeting and circulation spaces. Given its convenient location, the secondary school could be suitable for students from all over Kleinbasel as well as from Riehen.

The existing boundary fence along Schwarzwaldallee will be relocated onto the site, making the building accessible and creating the open space needed for the duration of the provisional arrangement. To allow pedestrian access from Schwarzwaldallee to the 1008 building, another section of the existing fence will be moved. This work will be completed in August 2023.
