ROSENTAL SECONDARY SCHOOL OPENS ITS DOORS.

Next Monday, 130 school pupils will pass through the large entrance gate of Rosental Secondary School and fill the school’s spacious foyer with life. Built in 1930, the historical building was constructed by what was then J.R. Geigy AG and housed various companies in the chemicals industry. Now Basel’s eleventh secondary school, the building will be home to ten classes from the 2023/24 school year.

A further seven classes will join them in August 2024. As well as a ground-floor courtyard for break times, the pupils can also enjoy the use of two roof terraces with views over Basel. The day centre (Tagesstruktur) is located on the fourth floor.

The classrooms are spacious and bright.

The building is characterised by spacious areas and good accessibility and is located directly opposite the Badischer Bahnhof. Given its central location, the secondary school is suitable for pupils from all over Kleinbasel as well as from Riehen.

The necessary construction work started back in November 2022 and was carried out quickly so that lessons could start on time in mid-August 2023. In parallel with this work, the northern façade was renovated in close consultation with the heritage protection authority. The existing boundary fence along Schwarzwaldallee was relocated onto the site to make the building accessible.

The tight schedule means that work on the surroundings is expected to carry on until spring 2024. One of the reasons for this is the creation of green spaces. The school will initially be housed here for three years.
