Dismantling, construction site A
Dismantling of the above-ground parts of building 1010 was completed at the end of September 2024. The basement levels of building 1010 are now set to be demolished by the end of March 2025. In the work tent, contaminated soil material will continue to be removed in the area between buildings 1038 and 1040. This work is expected to last into the second quarter of 2025.
THE NEXT STAGES IN DEVELOPMENT.
Preparatory work for the excavation pit of the future building 6 will also be taking place. For this purpose, deep holes will first be drilled using a large drill rig, and then filled in with clean gravel. This will allow metal profiles known as sheet pile profiles to be driven into this gravel. This work is expected to carry on until the end of the second quarter of 2025.
Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI)
In August 2024, the FMI, a research foundation of Novartis, moved to the Novartis Campus. The building, which is located on the Rosental Mitte site, was recently purchased by the canton. The purchase of the former FMI building adds to the site acquired by the canton back in 2014 and will simplify the integrated development process. Over the next few years, Rosental Mitte will gradually be opened up and transformed into a fully-fledged district for working, researching, living and meeting people.
Sandgrubenstrasse 2 and 4
The former residential building, built in 1940, has undergone fundamental alterations for interior office use over the years. Planning is currently underway to return the building to residential use. Completion of the construction project is pending. The building application will then be prepared and the building application submitted. The 1000+ cantonal housing programme involves the construction of a total of 37 apartments.
Buildings at Maulbeerstrasse 44–48
The buildings on Maulbeerstrasse were constructed as residential buildings between 1900 and 1910. The structures are listed buildings. Over the years, major changes have been made to their interior due to their conversion into offices. While work has also been done to the facades over the years, the street facades have retained many original elements. The buildings will all be returned to residential use.
On account of the structural condition and their use as office buildings for many years, major renovation measures are needed. The return to housing will be accompanied by a partial opening project, enabling the buildings to be accessed directly from the Allmend and corresponding free space to be created for the tenants. Planning is currently in the construction project phase. As part of the 1000+ cantonal housing programme, a total of 45 apartments are being built.
